Cancer Mother Awakens Us to Wholeness

by Guru Rattana, Ph.D. - Issue #172, July 11, 2010
The Dynamics of Change

In the past few issues I have been explaining the dynamics of the impactful 2010 planetary alignments, which offer us invaluable insights about what is transpiring in our personal and collective lives. Mix all these planetary energies and their interactive dance together, and we have the formula for a quantum shift in consciousness, and a major turning point in human history. In this issue I add another significant piece that can help us understand the nature of our current challenges, and how to find resolution in expanded consciousness.

The bottom line is - if enough of us are able to shift our inner reality from one of conflict to one of peace, together we can create a collective field and energetic foundation for a new operating paradigm on Planet Earth.

Astrology helps us understand the unfoldment of evolutionary change. Kundalini Yoga and Meditation offer us a powerful technology to align with the ever-evolving universe, and to grow and transform ourselves. First, I will interpret the significance of the current planetary interactions. Then I will suggest how to use Kundalini Yoga to take advantage of the energies that are awakening and brewing within us.

Planetary Alignments
Formula for a Paradigm Shift

This summer 2010 we are experiencing some of the most intense and significant planetary alignments in decades. In previous issues I have written about the square formation between Saturn and Pluto, which has played a big role in the unidentifiable, yet palpable, heaviness we have been experiencing since their first exact square in November 2009. Their last exact square is August 21st, 2010, after which time the intense pressure will lesson as the two planets distance themselves from each other.

Saturn and Pluto are the 'get real' planets. Cosmetic changes compute as 'Do not pass GO'. Saturn obliges us to be in integrity and accountable, and to deal realistically with the limits and laws of physical reality. Pluto roots out untruths and misunderstandings hidden deep in our psyche, so that we can be authentic and honest from our very core.

In addition, for most of 2010, Saturn and Pluto form an extremely powerful T-square with Jupiter and Uranus. Jupiter and Uranus are the 'expand your reality' planets. Jupiter is a force of optimism, all kinds of wealth and good will. Jupiter encourages us to take advantage of opportunities. Uranus surprises us, shocks us, and wakes us up to think out of the box. From an Uranian perspective, there is no box! Add 'get real' to 'expand your reality' and we have the formula for a quantum shift in consciousness, and an historic paradigm shift. However, the result is not automatic. There is no free lunch. As co-creators, we participate by doing our inner work and learning our lessons.

T Squares and Grand Crosses

To understand the intensity and the importance of what is currently transpiring, it is useful to understand the nature of the energetic alignments of these outer or slower moving planets.

Pluto, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter are all interacting at 90° and 180° angles, forming squares and oppositions, which demand change and result in transformation. Depending on how many planets are involved, squares and oppositions form either a 'T' or a cross.

A 'T' formation has 3 branches. Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter and Uranus (plus some other planets that join the party from time to time) have been forming a 'T' square (with varying intensity - from intense to very intense!) from the spring through fall this year 2010. These planets are big players. There is no place to hide and no way to escape their demands for growth. We are obliged to deal with our life challenges in ways that result in profound shifts in consciousness.

A grand cross has 4 branches and thus more planetary interactions, which amps up the intensity and the impact on our personal and collective lives.

We experience the energies of squares and oppositions as pressure, stress, strain, frustration, anger, conflict and being pulled in different directions. We know we have to do something about the current life issues that stare us in the face. The trick is to avoid succumbing to a feeling of victimization, and to use our fire energy to take action for ourselves. It is our courage, our persistence and the activation of our will, as well as our ability to let go and accept what is happening in the moment, that pulls us through. If we sincerely take responsibility for how our inner reality creates our outer reality, we move forward and experience a new level of satisfaction, inner authority and self-confidence.

T-squares and crosses generally involve planets in the same modality (Cardinal - action, Mutable - adjust, Fixed - deliver or consolidate) The current T-square and cross are created by planets in the very early degrees of the Cardinal signs - Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn (and at some points the late degrees of mutable Virgo and Pisces).

Pluto is in Capricorn. Due to retrograde activity, Saturn has shifted between Virgo and Libra and will move into Libra July 22nd for the next 2 years. Jupiter and Uranus have been in the late degrees of Pisces, but are now both in the early degrees of Aries.

(Jupiter entered Aries June 6th, and will return to Pisces September 9th, until it moves back into Aries January 23rd through June 4th, 2011. Uranus entered Aries May 28th, will move back into Pisces August 14th until March 11, 2011, when it will return to Aries for 6 years).

Cancer Eclipses and North and South Nodes

Every six months, during consecutive full and new moons, the Sun, Moon and Earth align precisely enough to interrupt the stream of cosmic energies transmitted to the planet. This temporary interruption facilitates the dissolution of old patterns, forges new pathways, and facilitates the reconfiguration of our consciousness.

This summer of 2010, for the second year in a row, Lunar and Solar Eclipses have happened while the Sun and Moon are in the sign of Cancer. This is significant, because archetypal Cancer is the energetic foundation or fourth limb of the Cardinal cross. Cancer is the sign at the bottom of a birth chart. In the natural progression of the Zodiac, Cancer represents our inner feeling space.

The North Node is in Capricorn and the South Node is in Cancer between August 22nd, 2009 and March 2nd, 2011. The signs of the North and South Nodes are indictors of the our current collective lessons.

The Capricorn Full Moon Lunar Eclipse June 26th was one of the major planetary alignments of 2010. This extraordinary Full Moon formed a grand cross in the four cardinal signs - Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. The cardinal signs initiate action and support new beginnings.

Pluto, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, the Sun and Moon were all involved! The significance of this event was defined by 12 planetary squares and 6 oppositions! That is a lot of interactive dynamics all at once. The intensity of this powerful alignment challenged and changed everyone! It opened doors for quantum leaps and profound transformation in all areas of our lives.

Cancer Offers Us a Feeling Foundation

A 'T' is top heavy, without a stable base. A 'T' has an empty leg. You may have experienced the Saturn/Pluto/Uranus/Jupiter 'T' as unsettling, without clear indications of how to resolve your issues, or perhaps lacking in clear direction on how to move forward. In our inner reality, a 'T' formation focuses our attention in our mind. We are lost in our thoughts and ungrounded.

When the fourth branch is added and a cross is formed, the energy dynamic is significantly altered. The bottom of the cross creates a stable foundation that grounds us in our bodies and in physical reality. Our center shifts down to a point of balance and equilibrium in our heart.

Cancer is 'the empty leg' of the Aries, Libra, Capricorn T-square. The two Cancer eclipses help us find our base and move us forward toward resolution, which we can access only in new, more subtle inner territory.

The Capricorn Full Moon Lunar Eclipse June 26th added the missing foundational piece. The Sun, Mercury, asteroid Juno and the South Node, all in Cancer, created an Earth Mother, 'I feel therefore I am' base in our psyche. The message of this full moon is that our internal emotional, feeling reality is the inner foundation, that supports and nurtures us in the world. How we experience, relate to and express our inner emotional core, determines how we project and present ourselves in the world (Capricorn).

With the Sun, Mercury, asteroid Juno and the South Node all in Cancer, the Cancer New Moon Solar Eclipse July 11th delivers the same message - our inner emotional reality creates our outer worldly reality. To consider that our ever-changing feelings are our foundation can be scary, but this is the cosmic message and the truth that we must embrace.

Experiencing the Divine Feminine/Mother Principle

Two consecutive years of Cancer Eclipses serve as an initiation, and re-introduction, of the Divine Feminine/Mother Principle, into our psyche and the collective consciousness. This a major energetic shift that we should welcome with deep gratitude, for it makes it possible to access, and to anchor in, the functional expressions of both the male and female polarities of our soul. We must, however, realize that being philosophical, idealistic or political about this opening is not going to shift our personal or collective paradigm.

Our task is to experience the feeling Cancer archetype as the base of our 'cross'. As we do so, we awaken to the fact that our emotional, and physical, bodies are a key ingredient to our transformational journey toward wholeness and love.

It is interesting to note, that the asteroid Juno joins the Sun and Moon in Cancer at the July 11th New Moon Solar Eclipse. During the Age of Taurus (approximately 4000-2000 B.C.E.) Juno was the Queen of the Heavens. She represented the triple Moon goddess - maiden, mother and crone. She was complete within herself, independent and had no male partner.(1)

Intense Feelings and Emotions

How are we experiencing the current energies? The dynamic tension that most of us are feeling, is partly a result of being forced to adapt to the higher frequencies that are infusing the planet. Higher frequencies of both the male and female polarities are more and more available for us, to experience and use to enter the dimension of the heart.

We also feel intense emotions because we are less and less able to escape into our minds. We can't simply release our negative emotions by projecting them outside ourselves. We are obliged to feel our feelings in our own bodies. The more we feel them, the more we get in touch with our negative emotional conditioning. As we become aware of our subconscious programming, we can release it, and free ourselves to 'be real'. It serves us well to allow and move through this transformational process.

The intensity of our feelings is obliging us to experience the feminine/feeling polarity of our soul in our body. It is challenging for those who are used to mental denial, and avoid actually feeling their uncomfortable emotions in their bodies, but it is empowering, and necessary, to go deep into an authentic experience of our constantly changing energy of motion - e-motions, where we connect with the flowing, evolutionary polarity of our soul.

Resistance and Results

We are also feeling the resistance created by the interaction of both squares and oppositions. Initially we experience resistance as irritation and frustration. We want to run away and withdraw. However, resistance is an essential dynamic in the evolutionary process. Resistance moves energy and opens space for something new. Resistance provokes action, invokes innovative solutions, and transforms situations. Resistance interrupts the flow of energy and our habitual patterns. It is this interruption that creates openings for change. Transformation is possible because resistance crystallizes coal into a diamond. In sum, resistance creates results.

We are also experiencing different levels and facets of a death/rebirth process. The planetary interactions in the very early degrees of the Cardinal signs definitely initiate new beginnings, but before a new beginning can move into manifestation, we must release the past. Something must die. The death process involves letting go of relationships, situations, beliefs and conditioning that no longer serve us. So be patient and kind to yourself as you release, grieve, and gather your courage to move into uncharted territory.

Taking Advantage of the Current Openings

Our focus at this time should be on using the current energies, and openings, to experience the elevated expressions of both polarities of our soul, with our primary goals being to find inner peace, to experience wholeness, and to open our hearts to self-love.

The good news is, that it is easier to move beyond thinking into subtle sensitive feeling awareness. We can't experience or figure out our feelings in our mind, and when our mind is in our duality channel it is co-opted by, and collaborates with, our wounded emotional conditioning, keeping us in a state of inner conflict. As we access our neutral awareness channel, we are able to non-judgmentally, and lovingly, pay attention to our feelings as they express through our emotional, physical and subtle bodies.

Directives for Your Kundalini Yoga Practice

Access and Anchor in Neutral and Rhythm

To take advantage of the current energies, our most important tasks are to:

  1. access our neutral mind.
  2. anchor into our body, feeling awareness of the peaceful qualities of neutral.
  3. awaken to the natural rhythm of our feeling polarity.

Whatever Kundalini kriya you choose to practice, take time between exercises to tune into the neutral space in your mind. Experience that this peaceful space is always available to you.

As your body feels the peaceful nature of your neutral channel, it will begin to relax and let go.

There are many ways to awaken to the natural rhythm of your feeling polarity. One way is to feel the rhythm of your breath as it breathes in your body. Be with the rhythm of your breath as it breathes in your chest and heart. Feel your skin breathing. Focusing on the rhythm of your skin breathing will awaken you to the peaceful natural flow of both your emotional and physical bodies.

Daily Sadhana

During these intense and transformational times, it is critical to have a daily spiritual practice.

A very short minimum exercise set includes:

  1. Tune in with Ong Na Mo Guru Dev Na Mo,
  2. Arms out to the side, palms up, breath of fire for 2-3 minutes,
  3. Chair pose for 2-4 minutes,
  4. Long Sat Nams for 2-5 minutes, and of course,
  5. silent feeling awareness, between the exercises and at the end of your practice.

An easy kriya is "Preparation Exercises for Lungs, Magnetic Field and Deep Meditation", on pages 122-123 in Transitions to a Heart-Centered World 2nd Edition.
